Excellent!! Thanks )
Perhaps this is a silly question but I'll ask anyway
What type of clothing are you wearing? I just took a quick look through the KitelyMarket and didn't see any suitable period clothing. I'm probably just missing it or it's more prevalent inworld. Thanks!
Many thanks for your thoughts, Jacon!
Here are some of mine (transferred from another discussion ):
Skye has wanted me to expand to Inworldz for a long time now and I've always resisted.
Seems to me it's actually a very tedious job with very little financial return. You have to ensure that you have the right to move every prim, texture, sculpt, mesh & script to another grid. For those that you don't have rights to, you have to find/make/purchase a replacement & integrate it into the build.
As I understand it, you can't sell the resulting product for anywhere near the price you get in Second Life, plus the volume of sales is a lot lower.
Then there are the start-up costs, the ongoing costs and most of all the time.
Of course this is a very narrow perspective and only addresses the challenges of moving OLD content from Second Life.
Stephanie said "What I miss in all of opensim is the STUFF available in SL" and this is part of the reason why.
Having said that, if merchants are willing to change their business models to accommodate sales across different grids (from the very beginning) there seems to be some exciting potential there.
It's also exciting to hear about the different projects taking shape. Extending a community like Antiquity to (an)other grid(s) is very cool indeed.
As Curtis points out, most of us in the historical communities are not here for the profits but for the love of the activity
Thanks, Quecay!
It's always a bit of a shock when a site changes (especially after remainingalmost the same for six years) but it's also nice to have something fresh.
Soon the "newness" will wear off and we won't even remember what the old site looked like. I took a few pictures just so I could!
We're stuck with the spacing between columns unless I go and tackle the CSS (see above - I hate CSS coding )
Not quite sure what you mean about lack of hierarchy, perhaps the order of the different modules? I'm still playing with that and it's easy to move them around.
The colours are based on those in the bannerwhich comes from "Le Th l'anglaise servi dans le salon des Quatre-Glaces au palais du Temple Paris en 1764" by Michel Barthlemy Ollivier (1712-1784).
No wonder they look dated!!! )
I'm still working on the text colours, fonts etc. but I think I'll stick with the Masthead & Background colours for now (unless I wake up tomorrow morning and really hate it).
We'll see how it goes!
It was old - really, really, old. It was also squashed into three columns which is so 2010
As I've mentioned, I didn't update it because I thought we would be migrating to a new Ning 3.0 site but after waiting for two years it was more than time for an upgrade.
The software behind the formatting was a major version behind and I had to do a lot of cheating with CSS code to get anything done. I hate CSS coding - lol.
Otherwise, the content is the same but hopefully presented in a more palatable fashion.
Hello Everyone
As you can see, I finally "bit the bullet" and started updating the site.
It was a loooong time coming (delayed by the wait to migrate to Ning 3.0 which never materialized) so there's a lot to do.
On the bright side: We didn't lose any data!! Woohoo!!
On the not so bright side: Any customization done on individual "My Page(s)' seems to have been lost. Sorry about that folks, I had no idea that was going to happen. You might want to wait a bit before you customize again until things have stabilized.
I'll continue making updates and tweaking which is complicated by the fact that it looks differentdepending on the browser(IEor Chrome - I haven't tried any others) ... sigh ...
In the meantime remember to:
Thanks!!
How can we make it clear this site is for them too?
I'm happy to make changes to graphics & text. As I mentioned before, we can't change the site name unless we move the platform. These changes mayprovide a better initial impression to attract new members.
The site has always been inclusive and the Guidelines help definewhat that inclusion entails. Those people that interpret "inclusion" as "I will use this site to dominate & harass" usually don'tlast very long.
Keeping this site " an interesting, safe and productive place where we can keep in touch with the many historical communities " is an ongoing challenge and obviously a shared, communityresponsibility.
To me, that's where the real emphasis has been and should remain. The other stuff is just cosmetics.
Why aren't the Renaissance Island events posted on our Ning calendar so that you could have planned your event around them? For the simple reason that there is not now, nor has there ever been a royal court on Renaissance Island. The early region administrators never felt comfortable publicizing events on this site (and even caught static from various Royal Personages in the Royal Courts group years ago for trying to do so). So the current owners and managers don't even think about the Royal Courts Ning.
Renaissance Island is welcome here.
From the time I took it over, this site was intended for all historical communities not justcourts. As I'm always saying, here's never been a royal court in the Duch de Coeur either.
I have no idea what happened "years ago" and no desire to dreg whatever it was up again. I'd rather concentrate on moving forward in a positive fashion.
Give me a shout when you're ready to discuss a branch for the Coeurs
