Update on Antiquity

Communty News & Events

Greetings and Salutations.

As most know by now, Antiquity has been going through many changes over the past few months. Antiquity has been blessed to have some of the most creative and exceptional builders in SL. Together, we have been creating a place that is beautiful but also functional: a large roleplaying area for all to enjoy.

One thing that confuses many new visitors to Antiquity is the mix of eras and protocols in Antiquity. Let me try to explain a bit how that works.

At the moment, Antiquity has a simple protocol for addressing residents and visitors. We use simple addresses for the titles: Prince Whoever, Count Somebody, Lady Otherbody. As we start to focus now on growing and developing the courts, specific protocols will be released for each court and distributed to all members.

Since its inception, Antiquity has primarily had Nobles in the North and Pirates in the South. As pirates spanned many eras, from early times through the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, it is rather agreed that a pirate is a pirate and not time specific. The courts of SL, on the other hand, have always been time specific. This has sometimes created a problem between some Courts. Antiquity, on the other hand, does not see it as a problem at all. Antiquity represents some of the best eras of roughly a 100 year span from 1740 to 1840.

Antiquity looks at various eras (Baroque, Rococo, Regency, Victorian) and pirates not in the the terms of the time they took place, but more in terms of the cultures in which they lived. If someone lives in a Baroque area in SL, they dress and live their life in that style. They are, in essence, Baroque. Each culture dresses differently and has different manners and customs. Think of it this way: If a visitor from Japan came to England, yes, they would follow the laws and customs of England, but they would still be Japanese, still have the choice of dressing and acting Japanese. They would be welcomed as visitors who simply dressed and acted different then you. That is how we look at it. There are different cultures in Antiquity that live side by side, not different time periods mashed together.

With that in mind, Antiquity offers many an opportunity to live or rp with us and we will be opening up more rentals as well. There are different kinds of homes available here from island homes to upper scale housing around the French Gardens, and more will be added around Buckingham when it is placed. Living here has its perks. Antiquity has wonderful water for sailing and the equivalent of about 25 sims for riding horses or taking carriage rides. Also, there are many public spaces in Antiquity for all to enjoy. There are gardens and plazas, and public buildings such as the Capitol Building that can be explored and used. Even parts of Le Chateau de Clagny and Buckingham Palace will be open for the residents to enjoy, rp in, and host events in. It is no fun to have a beautiful place if nobody is allowed to use it.

We have expanded our estate area by 50% and are in the process of finishing up expansion in the sky. We have installed a 16-sim platform to create the Antiquity Forest. The Forest is filled with lots of different areas to explore. There are roads and soon carriages that will help you to get around Antiquity more easily. Le Chateau de Clagny, its gardens, and, when placed, Buckingham will all be located in the Forest.

The British Court of Antiquity will be housed in Buckingham Palace. The areas surrounding Buckingham will be designed and built in an English style, and developed into an up-scale housing area to serve the Palace and Court. A few of you may have had a tour of Buckingham and have seen some of the quality of work that both Gov. Crotian and Duchess Twelfthnight can produce. The outside of the palace has been meshed and the inside wings are next on the agenda. The Court will be ruled by King George IV and will be set in the Regency era. We are pleased to have Governor Iker de Mariala helping with the British court. The British Court in Antiquity will be self-governed and will bestow titles under the Antiquity British Crown.

Le Chateau de Clagny will house the French Kingdom of Antiquity. Built by Governor Louis Philippe d'Amblise, the French kingdom of Antiquity is a fictional countryside baroque court far from Paris and from the rigid etiquette of Versailles. The French kingdom of Antiquity is under the dominion of the Antiquity Empire ruled by Her Royal Highness Cathryn Beaumont. Her representative in the region will be a Dauphin de France. The French court in Antiquity will be self-governed and will appoint titles under the French Kingdom of Antiquity.

The British and French Courts of Antiquity will join the existing Court of Spain, the Principality of Mont Saint Bruno, and the Grand Duchy of Antiquity. Antiquity as a whole will be open to relations with other Courts and groups, exchanges of Ambassadors, and joint recognition of titles to allow greater interaction with other period estates. The French first, and then the British Courts will start holding events.

Putting this all into place has been a long process, and we are very pleased with the results. His Highness Prince Jacon, together with His Excellency Duke Crotian Egerton de Bexar and Her Grace Duchess Twelfthnight Egerton de Bexar have been helping to get Buckingham finished, and in addition to helping to build the Antiquity Palace, Governor Louis Philippe d'Amblise has been putting the final touches on Le Chateau de Clagny and surrounding area. Both Duke Crotian's work throughout the ground level of Antiquity and Buckingham, and His Excellency Governor d'Amblise's work on the Antiquity Palace and Clagny are top shelf. If you have not visited Antiquity yet, do come by and see some of their amazing work.

Moving forward, Antiquity will have a variety of different themed areas rentals that will fit the tastes of almost everyone. We have smaller tropical homes in the Port Royal area. There are some smaller rentals in the Pirate city of Oceania. There are also rentals open in the Forest. There are three chateaus around the gardens of Clagny and three apartments inside Clagny available to be rented. They come furnished, or unfurnished, with a prim allowance. For the more rustically-inclined, country cottages can also be arranged for rent in the forest.

There is also a vibrant sailing and battling community in Antiquity. We currently have battles during the week, and a weekly battle against our friends in Morgans. Admiral Pz Engineer and Commodore Contessa head up the Royal Antiquity Navy, Princess Pamus the head of the Equestrian program and we also have mermaids and Princess Tiamat Windstorm von Hirvi, the children's group led by Beatrix Muircastle, pub life led by Drezenda, and lots more. Contact any of the admins for information.

For those of the mer persuasion who wish to live undersea, apartments and caverns are available in Sea of Antiquity and MarieGalante.

For more information on rentals, courts, or even pirates in Antiquity, you can contact any of the Antiquity Administrators: Jacon Cortes, Cathryn Beaumont, Tiamat Windstorm, Pamus Bing, Pz Engineer, Contessa Wizardly, Crotian, Twelfthnight, Wiseboyqc, Edward (eddy.cannonball) Beaumont, Beatrix Muircastle, Lizbethbloodthorn,

With the new interest in virtual worlds, it's important that we preserve and sustain vibrant period "courts and pirates" lifestyle. Come and sail the waters or explore the forest. Antiquity invites all to come. There is lots to see, and many wonderful residents to meet and to create new rp relationships with.

Hope to see you soon.

Thoughts of Bexar

General Discussion

Dear Diary

As I prepare to lay my head down, I cannot shake the image of my beloved home, engulfed in flames, tears slowly filing my eyes. Through the blurred sight of teary eyes, images of my childhood flash before me. My father and mother, seated at on their thrones speaking to important people as I stumbled behind on wobbly legs. My first skinned knee after being pushed down the stairs by my older brothers, Tocho and Pixa. My first horse ride and the last dinner, all flooding back in no particular order.
Even as I prepared to move to my new home, much of the treasures in transport to Chateau de Clagny, my heart aches. Strong flashes of light appear as the roof succumbs to the flames. Nothing prepares you for the sight of your home slowly eaten and wounded by the fires.
Today was no different then any other day. Dear Cousin Cathryn, visiting, enjoying a spot of tea in the kitchens with me. If it were not for the loud noises coming from the courtyard, it would have been like any other night. Tranquility was dashed as our chambers were raided. Held at gunpoint, we were whisked around the castle from room to room as each were searched for valuables. My head sank low, as I heard the cheers of the pirates having encountered a chest of gold in the chapel attic, that had yet to be shipped.
Had it not been for the fine hot tea and sweet cakes, offered by the lil'est pirate, Cousin Cathryn and I would have truly be shaken more. This does dispel a notion that pirates are uncivilized. The cakes were so sweet, we must order the guards to get the recipe before they are hung. Even though Lady Kocoa held us at gunpoint, she was a wonderful hostess while we were with her.
I guess during the chaos, a candle was turned over in the chapel, Cousin Cathryn and I locked behind huge doors, we could hear one of the servants ringing the bells in alarm. Trying in vain to break open the doors, they were burst open by Lieutenant of the Royal Antiquity Navy, led by Admiral Engineer. Soon our captors were running to get away. Cousin Cathryn and I made it to the courtyard and the front gates, when we realized that the Commodore had gone back to help retrieve the Pirate Drez, who had fallen wounded. I ran in, being the only one that knows how to get out, to find the Commodore. Running through the flames and smoke, coughing with ever step, I found the Commodore in the Reception Room. Together we headed out just in time.
Timbers were raining down on us, smoke filled towers and rooms, all around.
Of all that has happened, we are safe. One day, the castle will be restored, to its former beauty, but for now...I am too tired to concentrate, my chest heavy still from the smoke.

Thank you so much. I appreciate you took the time to read my post and add a reply. I am often asked, what is Antiquity. That sometimes is not an easy question to answer as we have may layers of things going on at the same time. I hope this will help other understand us and feel free to come and explore our lands. We are very much an open and engaging world and look forward to help grow rp around SL for everyone.

What historical rp would strike your interest ?

General Discussion

Greetings Everyone

I have been reading this with much interest and wanted to give everyone a brief update of what direction Antiquity is following. Antiquity was founded in 2007 as a primarily Victorian Grand Duchy. Over time, we expanded our scope with the addition of other courts with in our boundaries. Antiquity spans a time period of roughly 100 years., from 1750-1850.
In Antiquity, we look at time in a different way most here approach it. We reconcile the time differences in eras, Victorian, Regency, Baroque by looking at them in terms of culture and not in time. If you live in a Baroque/Rococo area of Antiquity or visit from a Baroque Court or House, we do not look at you as a visitor from the 1700''s, but someone whos culture is Baroque/Rococo. Similar to a person from Spain Visiting London, he may dress different from the styles in London, but its accepted as the differences in a visiting culture. This allows us to rp and create ties with other Courts and Houses with out time being a barrier. Antiquity can be formal when needed, but we have more of a feeling of being far away from the rules and rigors of a formal every day court.

With that said, we are in the process of developing different role play opportunities in different areas. The goal is to involve more people and also other external groups, that would like to establish relations with Antiquity. It is my belief, that more cooperation, between groups, would not only give people more things to do, as a block, it would help promote our period lifestyles when all too often we are loosing lands instead of gaining them. The promotion of period goods, clothes, furniture, ships to attract a wider groups, should be a priority. Supporting period creators is imperative to ensuring we have quality items to surround ourselves and help create the atmosphere we are trying to set.

I agree with much that has been said here. I also understand that everyone has a different idea of what and how a court should be run. In Antiquity, we celebrate the diversity of groups we have here and also respect the rules and cultures of our external friends. I refer to this as the When in Rome Rule. When traveling in areas, respect the rules and cultures of where you are it. These differences should not be a hurdle to more interaction between different groups and areas.

In Antiquity, we have 16 regions of land, with two levels of areas. The ground level is divided into two spheres. The Northern and the Southern. The Northern lands are more town site, rolling hills, estates, with areas of baroque, Victorian and Regency. The Southern lands are more tropical, Island, sailing areas with scattered housing and possible pirates sailing the seas.
On the Forest level, we have created a large forest, covering the 16 regions at 2000M up. In the forest level, you will find roads and dense forest. Estates, Palaces and public areas make up the rest.

At the moment, Antiquity has various Royal Courts with in its boundaries.

1. The court of Spain, Baroque/Rococo, with the palace and gardens located on the ground level and areas in the forest as well.
Ruled by King Carlos III of Spain, mix of court and military roleplay with the Armada.
2. The Principality of Mont Saint Bruno, a baroque/Rococo themed area with shops, housing, cathedral and theater.
Ruled by Crown Prince Gaianed
3. The Grand Duchy of Antiquity, Victorian, functions both in a rp capacity as well as administrative
Ruled by HRH Cathryn Beaumont, Princess Regent of Antiquity, Beaumont Hall, the royal palace of antiquity is located in the Forest an also military with the Royal Antiquity Navy.
4. Le Royaume de France, Baroque/Rococo, Chateau de Chenonceau and gardens on ground level, Chateau de Clagny and Chateau sur la marns and surrounding gardens forest level.
In development, based on a fictional Antiquity family branch that returned from France after many years to re establish its self and retake control of their ancestral lands in antiquity.
Rules by Fictional Prince not yet selected and title structure not yet completed.
5. The Kingdom of Great Britian, Regency, will encompass the lands of Somerset Regency, Britannica, and Cambridge on the ground level, Buckingham Palace, and English town site on the forest level.
Ruled by King George IV, Regency, centered around the brothers and sisters of the King with Buckingham Palace serving as the anchor of the court. Title structure not yet completed yet.

Besides the courts, Antiquity also has opportunities for other roles, commoners, domestic services, merchants, tavern keepers, military and even pirates. Right now, we are using a coin system to start and economy, we use the G&S system for growing, selling and cooking food for rp. Each area has its own flavor, but we all follow the same idea. We respect each others differences and embrace cooperation to increase opportunities for better interaction with others.

Antiquity is not a 100% accurate roleplay in any terms. We are a group of people that enjoy living in a period lifestyle, with out the strict protocol and history of a true historical rp. We appreciate history, just want to have fun with it...:) I believe, that every group has its right to create what works for them. It is hard to create a good roleplay, while keeping it fun and engaging for all.

Antiquity looks forward to engaging with others, and helping increase the visibility of period lifestyles in SL. We look forward to working with other groups, expanding cooperation and helping to strengthen the appeal of period life within Second Life.

I invite all to visit antiquity, if you have any questions...or would like a tour, please feel free to get in contact with me in world and i would be happy to show anyone around
