VERSAILLES GAZETTE No.27: The Subject of Drink
Ladies & gentlemen were separated into neighbouring salons, indulging in poetry & billiard respectively. Ladies were harmoniously reciting poems & just when Mme Victoire left, Duc d'Ayen entered the room to check on his daughter Vicomtesse de Trévien. But it turns out the soon joining Comte de Clèdes embarrassed himself & fellow men prior, dancing on the pool table drunk! He picked up a fight & ladies abandoned the rooms for safety & the unconscious Comte was dragged back to his apartments in disgrace.
