More on a Murder: The Deaths of the ‘Princes in the Tower’

History

Sir Thomas More's account of the murder of the ‘princes in the Tower’ has been treated with varying degrees of scepticism over the past century and a half. More's History of King Richard III is notable, nonetheless, for the way it provides precise circumstantial detail and responsibility for the focal point of the succession crisis of 1483. More's account of those deaths is all the more striking because central to it were several individuals who were still alive at the time of its writing, survivors of the episode and their immediate families. This article explores the identity and experience of those at the heart of the murder story in the context of its creation in the 1510s, especially the man who may well have been the surviving murderer, John Dighton, and Edward and Miles, the prominent royal servant sons of his alleged partner in crime, Miles Forest – and More's contacts with them. In doing so, it sheds some light, if not on the history's absolute veracity, then at least on the first decades of its development in the England of the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries, and the implications for historiography and the nature of the contemporary regime.

Myriam UPGRADE + HUD v1.1 + JAR FIX

Myriam, a bit overwhelmed with all the new ingredients, started truncating her Price List for Ingredients. Poor dear just ran out of memory.

In order to keep her happy the major inventory categories have been adjusted and sub-categories have been added to Ingredients.

To keep everything coordinated, adjustments have also been made to the major categories for the contents of the HUD Basket.  The updated HUD will be sent to out automatically.  Please note that the Meter has NOT changed.

In other news, a fix has been made to both the Honey & Strawberry Jam jars which were losing their brand names, eg. "Queen's Hamlet", when retrieved from the SL inventory.  The old versions do however retain their labels and the correct floating text so it's up to you if it's worth swap them for the new versions.

Happy Holidays!

As we find ourselves in the thick of the holiday season here are a few new AoR developments to help make our celebrations a bit brighter.

Roast Beef Dinner

Just in time for holiday gatherings, a roast beef dinner is now available.  It may be purchased directly from Myriam or cooked in the brand-new cast iron roaster.  See Recipes for a list of required ingredients.

Many thanks to Beckka for creating the custom meshes for this fabulous feast.

Vineyard

The AoR vineyard project is coming together nicely keeping our community vintners busy growing new grapes and testing the various harvesters & crafters involved.

Red grape juice, which provides a nice boost of energy, is now available as are red grapes, an important ingredient for raisins.

Abbondio has embarked on a wonderful research project providing us with lists of grapes & wines that are not only specific to the 18th century but also to our various locations.  This wealth of information is being used to customize our production allowing each geographic area to have their own special wines.

As a result, the Queen's Hamlet, located in Provence, is proud to present the its very first table wine, Dureza.  It gives a nice little boost to your Social but don't drink too much as your Health may be adversely affected.

More information regarding the vineyards will be forthcoming.

Taste What's New

Samples of all the new drinks and meals are available in the QH Market for your viewing and tasting pleasure.  Plans are in the works for at least one new AoR holiday dessert and we'll keep you posted on the release.

Ice Skating on the QH Pond

Anxious ice-skaters will be glad to hear that the QH Pond has finally frozen over and is safe for skating.  No skates?  No problem!  Free skates are available in the kiosks at the site.  We'll have to see about arranging a skating party some time during the holidays

Cheers!

Tat

AoR Updates

METER UPGRADE TO v1.1

A small upgrade that removes the "Hit" sound each time Health takes damage.

Drinking a glass of wine will increase Social by 10 points and decrease Health by 5 points.

Health regenerates naturally so the "damage" shouldn't be noticed unless a player drinks a large amount of alcohol in a short period of time.

During testing it was found that any damage to Health resulted in the avatar giving a pitiful cry which, though amusing, wasn't very complimentary to the fine wines being consumed.  With this upgrade, players may now drink in silence :)

[AoR] Compost

News & Events

Here's a quick guide to composting!

Compost is used in AoR as an "ingredient" in the tending of various crops including grapevines, trees etc.

The Compost Bin harvester takes both brown & green organic matter and over a period of 24 hours turns them into compost.

The terms "brown" and "green" may be a bit confusing, in general they refer to the colour of the organic matter but that is not always the case.

Brown organic matter is high in carbon, think dead leaves, straw etc.

Green organic matter is high in nitrogen, think grass clippings, fruit & vegetable peels, etc.  Cow manure, while brown in colour, is high in nitrogen so is classified as green organic.

A rough ratio of two parts brown to one part green yields excellent compost.

Both brown & green organic matter can be "gathered" using the Organic brown and Organic green gathers.  They may also be a byproduct of other crafters, for example the winepress yields Organic_green straight into the AoR Basket.

Compost can be purchased directly from Myriam but it's hoped that thrifty farmers will enjoy making their own.

How Grapes are Grafted to Change Varieties

Historical Research

Here's one interesting bit of research in preparation for the new AoR vineyards:

Many thanks to Abbondio for doing all the ground work for this project, especially the historical aspects.

Stay tuned for more!
