Goatswood and Venexia sims to be closed this month

General Discussion

I think that's one of the great tragedies of SL: so much creativity, so much brilliance, so often lost, either because it's too expensive to maintain in dollar terms, or because people just can't dedicate the time needed to keep an RP community active and alive.

I don't think we can blame the issue of time commitment on laziness or passivity, at least not entirely. People do have real world commitments, and the qualities that make a person a good builder, sim community leader or inspirer of brilliant RP are also qualities that place demands on their time in real life - and everyone has to earn an income, and look after family needs. Real life sucks time, and also energy. It would be great if everyone was active and creative in their commitments, but we have to respect their need to put their active energy elsewhere.

It's a shame that we can't keep more of these great creations alive, but that's life, and pixels. But I do wish some millionaire would offer to fund an archive for the benefit of future SL archaeologists.

Some Thoughts on Alternative Gids

General Discussion

Yes, I'm wearing something I found in a Kitely freebies area and then retextured to my taste. Nothing exciting - modern shirt and pants, dressed up with a nice brocade texture, a bit of Jacon's jewellery, and a pair of heels that I actually had to purchase and don't fit quite as nicely as my SL footwear. I was able to tailor my avatar to pretty much twin Tiamat's SL version, though (perhaps the skin gives her a slightly more South Asian cast of countenance but that merely adds interest.)

Decades Festival: Call for RP Community Listings in SL and Elsewhere

General Discussion

The Antiquity Owners Group has established a beachhead in Kitely. Jacon Cortes is in the process of furnishing a satisfying interpretation of Blenheim House; Crotian Egerton has created a wonderful English castle with Norman provenance and a few centuries of meandering construction around the original bailey in full accordance with medieval and renaissance building habits; a few others of us have planted small constructions and are thinking about things to do with the land surrounding them.

We are amazed at how much land and how many prims we can get for a modest investment in Kitely! It makes experimentation so easy. However, the "derez everything when no-one's there" business model that makes Kitely so cheap does place a limit on the joyful spontaneous exploration that is such a delight of SL. We are hoping the two locations will complement each other, therefore, but don't expect Antiquity in Kitely to replace Antiquity in SL.

Call for Historical Models

General Discussion

I'm afraid I wasn't able to be on much this week, Stephanie. I'll assume from the preceding message you found everyone you needed.

I have a variety of centuries in my wardrobe, as well as some variety of continents. Do let me know if I can help.

TTR-Half-Price Classics as of May 15th

Buildings & Other Structures

Tatiana, would it be possible to purchase either the tea room or Mon Petit Chou in a mode that could be transportable into Kitely? I'm stingy with LI, even convex hulled LI, in SL (so much decorating to do, so little to do it with), but in Kitely we can go to town even with primmage.

Versailles TV Series (2015)

History

At least it seems to have a firm intent to reflect some historical actuality (unlike "Reign" which I gave up trying to watch rather quickly!)
