Game of Thrones ~ A Song of Ice and Fire

Book Lovers

Tiamat Windstorm von Hirvi:

I recently finished binge-watching Seasons 5 and 6, and am impatiently waiting for Crave to add Season 7! The above summary trailer is very well done - a belated thank-you for posting it, Tatiana.

You're welcome! Looks like our TV journey will be coming to an end soon and thank goodness for that! I've read a few articles about the books and they seem to be stalled.  Ah well ...

New Gowns at Twelfth Night Designs

Apparel

How beautiful!  Thanks for posting these.  I definitely need something new for spring!

(I resized your pictures to a width of 600px so that they would fit properly on the page and not cause page overflow.  It's unfortunate that the system doesn't do that automatically for us.)

Getting Clean, the Tudor Way

History

A historian attempts to follow Tudor hygiene with a daily regime of linen underwear.

Getting Clean.jpeg

"Many modern writers have presumed that without hot soapy water being regularly applied to bodies, Tudor England must have been a place inhabited by people who smelt like the long-term homeless. Much play has been made about the difference between beautiful clothes on the surface and an imagined filth and stench on the inside. I would refute that reading of the situation."

Outlander

Book Lovers

I quite enjoy the Outlander costumes and so I follow the costume designer Terry Dresbach on social media to get her insights into the designs.  I love how the story allows her to make her creations between historically accurate with a bit of a modern kick.

Here's an interesting article about the  SCAD Exhibit  which features Season 4 costumes.

"A pearl and diamond pendant from the late monarch's private collection, which Sotheby's billed as "one of the most important royal jewelry collections ever to come to auction," fetched more than $36 million Wednesday evening in Geneva, Switzerland. The item smashed pre-sale estimates that had valued it between $1 million and $2 million."
