What Are You Reading? v3

Book Lovers

9781474258234.jpg

Not only for work – currently researching an eighteenth century private collection - but also for the pleasure of it, I have been reading this book. It is great to see that we are finally reaching the norm of a comparative, more broader view; this book covers about the whole European continent. A Taste for Luxury... is a most excellent collection of case studies on eighteenth century economics, in particular on the social and moral impact of luxury, along with the tastes and fashions in the Age of Enlightenment.

Also the HUD save your progress only once every 5min, so if you log off right after doing something it may not be recorded, the safe way to do is to either unwear the HUD before you log off, or go to OOC and log off.

QH Welcomes the Antiquity Crafting System (ACS)

Already had an encounter with a doctor, that was a wild evening in town; but looking forward to the butcher. I still have three single-sided (*hint* lol) pigs and a rooster waiting in the ice box.

Game of Thrones ~ A Song of Ice and Fire

Book Lovers

I'm not much of a 'shipper' myself for anything, it amazes me all the more how people tend to lose themselves completely (and collectively!) over a series. Of course you want to see all and understand it, but seriously - when you see these people going crazy with armchair analysis and fortune cookie philosophy... Not to mention the air of entitlement of all these people signing a petition to demand rewriting a whole season because it didn't go as they expected. A-sto-nish-ing...

This last season was a very nice closure of the whole thing, they could have muddled through to a ninth, but it's good they chose to end it. It kept me very alert all through, I enjoyed the episode build up towards the big battle against the dead. The whole epic zombie battle was deeply dark, but became almost a teaparty with the almost single-handed sack of King's Landing by the Daenerys. As the credits commenced, I couldn't help myself muttering: 'Well, that was uncalled for...' For all her brilliant and ruthless arrogance I found Cersei's ending a bit bland. The final episode really had some unexpected turns for me, I for one did not see that knife coming. But definitely yes on that last part, it might be the best conclusion of all to make: The dragon was right.

I never picked it up until earlier this year, over some months before the start of the last season I watched all seasons and it was for me very satisfying that this series was not a happy pleaser for the viewer - all the ones you liked went down horribly or unexpectedly. Most enjoyable.

Good picture, handsome couple of farmers, and glad to see you too had a glorious harvest of vegetables. I teased you enough about the wheat situation. You solved it with charm, but it will probably haunt you for some time haha.
As for the loans, Louis was already considering such. But yes, I would certainly consider expanding the services of the Banco Rezzonico for this. Already thinking about how to design such an enterprise to make it a justifiable ploy, perhaps with the option of paying off through a share in produce. It could make it interesting for me at least to invest in farms and entrepreneurs, and benefit the development in general. I will give this some more thought over time, we're not in a rush

WANTED - Tenant Farmer @ Queen's Hamlet

Banco Rezzonico

This topic can be shelved for now, we had - above expectations - two applicants, who will both try out.
Known to and more than familiar with the Queen's Hamlet, we welcome Satoharu Nakamura and Candace Ducatillon.

Historical RP: Strengthening Connections

General Discussion

Spot on, Tatiana.

About the needs/wants point I dropped:
One can say many things about G&S, and is less mandatory in many things as you will get everything done with or without hud etc. But if you want better results you can use better tools and need to keep up high energy levels. It's the perfect example of wanting something over needing it.
Louis, I'm sorry to sound like a pessimist in this, as I am not, but: No matter how many needs you put into the hud, you still need people to want to do it and spend their time on it. For instance my needs for your hud are far less than you'd hope for any participant, because I simply am not that competitive (anymore) and just want to enjoy myself. First thing I'll do with that hud is testing that sobriety and getting as drunk as possible! :p

I think it's safe to say that we established the impossibilities of conversion. Users that lean to one or the other system, will perhaps dabble with the other for the sake of rp or community. I just hope that the ACS will remain as accessible in 'light use' as G&S is. For I cannot see myself using G&S ánd ACS simultaneously.

As said, I will support anything that is well thought through to enhance rp. It absolutely has a chance if you stick to period related stuff. But I fear you are putting too much on G&S. Let ACS be its own system, and accept that G&S is well established after a decade and progression. We, the foreigners/outsiders, that are a part of the 18th century community that -want- to dabble, will dabble :)

Challenges, quests and other ploys that are developed with use of a system, and not enclosed within - are indeed interesting. I think we have proven lately that with a bit of imagination and teamwork we can do this. I'm pretty sure that we'll continue doing this in future.

WANTED - Tenant Farmer @ Queen's Hamlet

Banco Rezzonico

Hatsuka:

I am interested, as the Hamlet has been the sim I spend almost all my time for over a year. I'd love to add rp to that.

That is lovely news, which both I and the Duchesse have already been very equally happy about.
I shall contact you inworld with the details!

Fisher of the Month Challenge April 2019

QH Challenges

Oh, that is a nice surprise. I had thought someone would surpass my score, but not that there would be a trophy attached.  Do feel a tad guilty now, because my fishing is mostly done when new flavours for the vines are released; for the sake of the new fishing ploy I shall try to make an effort in fishing for more recreational purposes too. And also because our bank is very much enjoying a good deal of purpose in the whole QH fishing enterprise
